Is Nikon FM10 professional camera?
I'm 14 years old, I love photography and I have Canon sx30 camera, I love it, but now i want to get serious to photography, I want to buy Nikon FM10 film camera… Is it good for me? I'm self-educated in photography.
Professional cameras cost many times what the FM10 sells for, but that doesn't matter. The Canon you already have is a pretty good camera. Are you sure you want to get a 17 year old film camera?
It's a good camera, but probably wouldn't be found in most professional uses. The Canon should be fine for some very serious work.
It's a nice camera but it has not been considered anywhere near professional for 30 years.
The FM 10 is not what the FM 2 was build wise. You can get a much better Nikon N8008 camera for next to nothing these days. The Nikon film camera that is the "Pro" is the F6. For that money you can get a very nice D7000.
So, now to the question "Is it good for me?" might be if your only looking for a NEW film camera.
Cost is ok, make sure you get good lenses that will work on the AF digital Nikon FX (D800 like) cameras so you have lenses you can use later as well.
Would I as a teacher ask you to spend money on one at your age? Nope, I would have you use your Canon sx30 for at least another cpl of years. Start to work saving your money, get that savings account going and see where you and photography is in 26 months.
Indeed the FM 10 was an entry-level camera using film, but it might be a starting point if you want to learn about using film - personally I would recommend a Nikon FM or FM2 if you want to learn about film use, if you can find an FM or FM2 at reasonable price. Either of those would probably be over 20 years old. Personally I would stick to what you have at the moment and really get to know how it can help you get the sort of images you want to produce. Cameras that professionals buy for workhorses are generally much more expensive. Althouigh some traditionalists will stick to film, the world of imaging in general is now geared to digital working.
The FM10 is not an expensive camera. That is if you believe a professional camera must be expensive… The FM10 goes for about $350-400.It is totally manual. This will force you to learn the relationships between shutter speed and apertures. Depth of field.
Excellent quality comes from the knowledge of the photographer, the quality of his equipment, the quality of the paper and chemicals he uses. Or in the case of digital cameras, the quality of the cards upon which he collects his pictures.
Find a book store, such as Barnes & Noble, that has an extensive photography section. Pick a few books, find an easy chair in the store, and read, read, read.
