Is it worth saving up for a high quality camera?
I was thinking of saving up for a high quality camera. I want a good high quality camera for when we go on holiday. I have a camera on my phone and we have a digital camera but would it be worth getting a high quality one?
It depends…
If you are interested in photography, then yes… It's worth investing in a decent camera, the first thing you should do before spending any money… Is pop into your local library and read through a few of the photography guide books… You'll understand better whether you should make that investment after flicking through a few books… Photography can be approached with a modest budget, it is addictive though and it can become pretty expensive.
If you are mainly interested in social media and just enjoy uploading 'snaps' to facebook and 'instagram'… Then your smartphone or a compact camera will satisfy you just fine… You don't really need to step up to more expensive kit.
For around $200 you can get a Fujifilm Finepix SL-300.A camera hard to beat for the price. And it has a killer
zoom.
My idea of a " high quality camera " will be different from yours. I'd be thinking of a Hasselblad HD-4. You may think of a Nikon D3100 or Canon Rebel T3.
Different people will have a different definition of what a high quality camera is. I would definitely suggest something a step above a camera phone for recording images while you are on holiday.
You only need a high quality camera for serious photography. There are plenty in the lower price range that give good results.

Yes, it is best to save up for a better camera if you want to start a business because then you can make up for the camera and then some.
If you are going on a trip, you will want your pictures to be very good so you can make enlargements, postcards, or just have very nice album prints (Or slides), so getting a high-quality camera would be a wise investment. Of course, you will have quite a range to choose from because many types of cameras fall into the 'High-Quality' field, from 35mm all the way to large format. It depends on the model really. I assume that you are looking for something that balances economy with quality, so you may want to look into some 35mm SLR or Rangefinder cameras. I know that your question did not extend to ask for specific recommendations, but I have listed some websites that may give you some more to think about in your search for such a camera should you decide that it is what you want.
