Is it okay to use my nikon SB600 speedlight flash during a state wrestling match?

I need to get GOOD pictures. Since my lens isn't as fast as I'd like, I usually use my speedlight to get sharper pictures. But during any kind of sporting event, I'm afraid I will blind and distract the players. Is it okay to use it? Or should I just make due with my normal flash and pray it's clear?

I wouldn't use any flash if the wrestlers are going for state they will be very upset if they get blinded and then taken down, its like flash banging a soldier during combat, just use higher ISO and white balance, plus i'm guessing it will be pretty well lit at the match

You'll have to ask the officials at the match. Assuming flash is allowed, I see no difference between using a popup or an external flash, they both have a distractingly bright pop of light although the SB600's is more powerful. Either one will be limited in distance, though, so be sure you are near enough and using manual settings to get the exposure you need.

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the flash. The lighting should be very good in the arena, the flash could potentially interfere with the matches, and unless you are *VERY* close to the action, the flash isn't going to help much.
