Can i use my slr's external wireless flash during video?
I just bought a sigma EF 610 DG SUPER external flash to go with my nikon d5100.i've never used an external flash before and i'm still familiarising myself with it but i think so far i've managed to understand its basic functions when used for still photography. I was wondering though is it possibly to use my flash as an open source of light during a video shoot? Or are these only capable of making instantaneous flashes?
I have the feeling it most probably does not do what i just asked but i'm just hoping, it would help me a lot if it does.
No - it can't provide continuous light. Flashes are just that - a burst of light in a single pulse.
Video filming means shots of several seconds or more. Each flash from any flashgun lasts a very short time, around 1/1000 of a second. Nobody can use flash for illuminating video shoots. If natural light is not enough you will need to get some sort of 'continuous' light source. That can be as simple as a desk lamp for small areas, or can be battery operated, or you can spend hundreds on large scale 'video lights'. Start small, and buy bigger if you need to.
You can't use a flash for video - they send out a high intensity very short duration flash of light for stills only.
