Is it enough a nikon 28-200mm F/3.5-5.6 D lens to get good shoots of the next full moon?
Is it enough a nikon 28-200mm F/3.5-5.6 D lens to get good shoots of the next full moon? Or do I need a different one?
It will get you good shots, but maybe not great shots. You really need at least 300mm, 400mm would be even better. I used my Pentax X-5 at 580mm equivalent and was able to fill about 7% of the frame. That's what you could expect from a 400mm lens.
Getting the exposure right is as important as getting a long enough lens; work on that.
Do we really need another picture of the full moon?
At 200mm the largest craters should be visible, but there will still be a lot of empty space in the frame.
This is not an AF-S lens, and if your camera is a D3XXX or D5XXX it will not autofocus with it.
28-200mm is not a do-almost-everything lens. On a DX sensor it has the 135 equivalent focal length of 42-300mm. 300mm is plenty of telephoto for most uses, but focal lengths shorter than 42mm are something you would covet often.
Yes and if the results aren't large enough, you can always crop. You will however definitely need a tripod.
