I can't afford cannon or nikon at the moment as their prices are out of my reach & I won't buy samsung, sony, lumix or benq as they're not really good. What do you think of fujifilm, Kodak or Olympus?
I want something not more expensive than 300 bucks maximum. I want it with zoom & crisp & clear snapshots & would last me a life time. I take snapshots of everything for so long with my cellphone but I want a digi cam now.

You don't need to buy Canon EOS, in fact Canon Powershot SX40HS is just what you're looking for! Easy enough to use, but still with versatile functions!

My recommendation is the Fuji Finepix S2950 @ $152.00 on amazon, or other retailers. Fuji to my mind gives the most value for the money, and stands behind their product(based on personal experience). I agree with the other recommendation for the Canon Sx40 IS, but it is over $400 and really a bit more than you indicate for your needs. If you could find a prior model of this Canon like the SX30, 20, or 10, you would fill you bill without going over your limit. But then you are talking used and w/out the one year warranty.
The Fuji S2950 has the new 3inch size LCD. An amazing long zoom lens (18x power) which is like 28mm wide angle to a 504mm telephoto. In 35mm terms. I had an oringinal Fuji when digital was first introduced, which cost me $800.00 and this model ( Fuji S2950) has more lens length and features!
