I'm sorta new to Cameras?

I have a Kodak easy share m575, and I really want to start saving up money to get a more.professional camera. I just don't know ANYTHING about cameras or lenses or anything. Should I get a SLR or a compact? Nikon or Canon or Sony or Etc? I just need to know where to start.

All I know is that I would Like for an easy to use camera with at least 12 mega pixels and that's just good quality. Something that can take good pictures even in horrible lighting.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for me, please answer.

A Nikon D3000 is a fabulous place to start. That was my very first professional camera, and I still love it. It's simple and has all the aspects you need when you're first starting off. I highly recommend using that. You can get it for around $499 at Walmart

If taking pictures is not really going to be your hobby or anything like that. I'd say just get a really good compact camera. One for around $300. But if you really want to do and practice photography. I'd say go with the Nikon D3100 as it is a fix to all the mistakes of the D3000

the camera you have is about good as a compact you would need,
so you will ant an SLR film, or D-SLR

Digital cameras by Nikon and Canon are popular, but you can look at others,
12 to 14 mega pixels with SLR option would be best for next advancement
