I'm really wanting a digital camera?

I'm NOT wanting a point and click type, I love taking pics and I'm into photography big time. I can't get anything over 270 which sucks but I don't know what to get. My step mom has a Canon but its the film one (which I love) but is Canon the best or should I get a Kodak or a Nikon. I've only used my step moms canon and loved it. Any advice?

Canon or Nikon are fine, but stay away from Kodak.
Film is your only choice at your budget, but will be a good learning experience. Start saving for an upgrade as you're learning on your film camera.

The Fuji XP20 works great for $150

A point and shoot is the only thing you can get in that budget. You can't buy a dslr for $270. The one i would suggest is the Nikon COOLPIX L120. Its a bridge camera. Takes excellent shots. I'm sure you'll love it. I suggest you read this review to help in your decision:

I've looked around and this is the best price i could find for it:

Any of the Canon compact digital camera in that price range will be fine. You can get a more complex but super nice used film camera at that price. For recommendations in your price range see the KenRockwell.com "recommended cameras" page.

You can't really get a point-and-shoot for under 270, unless it's film, I think. I couldnt at least. Try going for a film one if you want a slr.
