My DSLR doesn't like my Azden SMG-x1 boom mic. All it gives me in the realm of sound is buzzing and hissing. Like a really pisssed off goose. Apparenlty there's some sort of sound conversion issue that I was not aware of. I don't feel like sending the mic back because its really nice and I know it works because I've tested it on my churches camera. I also tried to use my Zoom H1 as a Preamp but i got the same issue

Are you using an adapter to connect the mic to the camera? Don't.

Then again, why expect good sound from a device that was never meant to deal with it?

You may have a mic input level issue. Since this mic has a preamp, you could be over driving the input (see page 158 in your camera manual). Or, you could have a wiring problem. Or, the power switch isn't on.

You bought a digital SLR to shoot video, but apparently do not know much about sound recording.

You have the right kind of microphone, a condenser, but do not know that you have to use a special recorder that can be adjusted so that the sound is peaking at -12 or -20 dB. To do this, you need to NOT use the auto sound level mode, but instead, set the sound levels manually. See page 148 if you decide not to buy an external sound recorder like the Zoom H4n

The link below should help you.

The second link is a good tutorial of what you need to do in post production with your sound

You may want to consider using a dual sound recording system if you want pristine sound

The problem has nothing to do with "sound conversion".

There's something wrong that
only a hands-on check by an expert will discover.
