I'm looking to buy my first DSLR Camera?
I need to know what the best choice would be for me to buy? Nikon… Canon… Or some other brand. I will be a senior in high school planning to major in photography when I further my education in the next few years. Any advice?
Try a Canon T3i or T2i, they're really good for a first DSLR.
Nikon and Canon are the two that are most recommended
here are the cameras that you should look at
Nikons D3100, D5100
Canons T1i, T2i, T3i
The above answers are great cameras. I own a 600D (T3i) myself, love it.
Also, something for you to concider is if you're going to use the video feature a lot. If not, you're better of with a 1000D (cheaper too, but less MP). If you're more into printing your photos on canvas, then you should buy a better one, like the T3i or the D5100.
I suggest looking at http://snapsort.com/...psort.com/ they give great tips, reviews and it has a really helpful guide to pick your first DSLR!
I agree with Thom. I own a Rebel XS and a t1i and both are excellent. I also agree about video.
If you don't need it why pay for it… The XS would fit your needs just fine. It's an excellent dslr with all the full features of any dslr camera.
After all if you're serious about photography one of the things you'll need to finish as part of the course is being able to yield good results using your manual controls. Any dslr will offer these controls but learning them will take some time.
So I stress why pay out cash that you don't need to. Buy what fits.
Both Nikon and Canon make nice cameras.
First… You will need to determine what your total budget is for the camera, lenses, extra batteries, memory cards, and a nice padded case (don't forget taxes/shipping/etcetera). Then visit a local camera shop and try the different brands/models out in your budget to see which one fits/feels best in your hands and that you can operate.
Nikon or Canon are the top manufacturers in the US. You can't go wrong with either.
For Canon: Canon T2i and Canon T3i
For Nikon: Nikon D3100 and Nikon D5100
