How come my step up lens and my 77mm polarizer does not fit?

I bought a 52mm To 77mm Step Up Ring By DragonFly and a 77mm b+w polarizing lens for my nikon 16-85 lens. I can't seem to fit both of those to my camera.Am I missing something?

Doesn't the 16-85mm take 67mm filters?

Andrew is correct - the 16-85mm lens takes 67mm filters. You need a 67 to 77mm step up ring instead.
