Great Nikon or Canon DSLR cameras?

So Black Friday is coming around and I want to get myself a DSLR camera that has a great picture quality. I normally prefer Nikon, but any other brands like Canon or Fujiflim (especially Olympic as well) will do. However the camera has to be under $400. When I mean great quality pictures, I'm reffering to clear crisp detail in photos- and that's a must for a camera.

If you can provide some knowledge about a specific camera in the price range (pros and cons) it would be useful. I really want to know other customers' point of view.

Finding a dSLR that is not used or refurbished for under $400 will be tricky, even on Black Friday. The least expensive from Nikon is the D3100, and from Canon, the Rebel T3.

In the Nikon world, the current "deal" is the discontinued D3000. I'll bet that D3000 cameras will be common on Black Friday ads.

In the Black Friday ads I've found so, far, the best deals were D3100 cameras, but they were going for $549.99.

You can actually do better right now with a D3000 here for $449.99 (not tax & free shipping)

And, if you want a deal on a reconditioned one, look up your nearest Sears Outlet store here.
