Good self-portrait cameras?
•I want a good, digital camera. Not one of those big, chunky cameras
•I would like it to be a Nikon, although it doesn't have to be
•It NEEDS to take self-portraits
•Anything under $500
•Needs to be cool looking, again, not big and chunky
Self portraits are a little tricky.
* You still have to use a medium telephoto lens setting to prevent distortion of your facial features.
* You will need a tripod or firm surface to place the camera
* The camera will have to be pre-focused on the spot where you will be when the photo is taken and in the case of a P&S camera, you will have to fool the camera so it focuses where you will be, not behind, if you use the 10 second timer. If you can find one with a remote shutter release, you can avoid the focusing issue and take many photos, one after the other and be more spontaneous in your poses.
* As you can see finding such a P&S camera will take some serious research. Fully adjustable cameras like the "big and chunky" dSLR's are much easier to use for taking self-portraits because the shooter has much more control over focus (it can be manually set) and all of then have optional remote shutter releases available for under $20 in the $550 price range
* Photographers use cameras as tools. Cool looking cameras are usually very limiting as a tool for shooting cool photos
Cool is so subjective.
Any camera can do decent self portraits for a teen. You might wanna get something that supports an infrared remote.
