Good nikon lens for engagement photos?
Thinking about going for the 70-200mm 2.8 or the 85 mm 1.4? Which would work better do you think? Or is there other lenses you personally prefer? Ideas?
Personally I'd go for the 70-200mm f2.8 - lot more versatile in focal length range and the constant f2.8 aperture will still get you plenty of light/shallow dof.

If you use a 70-200mm, you would have to stand across the room to get decent shots of everybody. The kit lens is perfect for most occasions. You just have to know how to use it.

The most used lens for shooting events is the 24-70 mm f/2.8
Are you on a full frame or cropped sensor body?
If cropped sensor then those lenses are way too long except for head only shots unless you want to be standing 20 feet away.
Even full frame they are on the long side of what you need.
Best lens is in the range 24-50mm on cropped sensor or 35-80mm on full frame.
