Good Lens For Night Photography?
Hey I'm Getting The "Nikon D7100" And I'm Wondering What Are Good/Awesome Lens For Night Photography Like Taking Pictures Of The Milky Way Making Time-Lapses And Such?
The 18mm end of the 18-55mm kit lens will do you for the time being. At f3.5 it's fairly wide.
If you later want to buy a spcialist lens, I'd personally go for the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8. It'll let almost a stop more light into the lens which means you can reduce your ISO by a stop (although the D7100 is a good high ISO performer in any case.
I use a Sigma 10-20mm which is a wider alternative to the kit lens but it's not such a fast lens as the Tokina
You need a nice wide-angle lens like a 24-70mm ( sorry I'm a Canon girl ) or equivalent. You'll need a tripod too as there can be no camera shake if you want successful star shots. A remote switch will help too so you are not even touching the camera when you press the shutter. Experiment on the 'bulb' setting trying exposures of 20 and 30 seconds etc. It's often trial and error depending on how much light there's is your environment at the time. Going out into the mountains it the country where there's no city lights to interfere will get you the best results.
That sad moment when there "two" good answers. Haha Thanks!
