Off camera flash photography with Quantaray flash?
Quantaray flash qdc 900wa <--- is the model flash I have. I have a Nikon D300 and would like to trigger the flash off camera with a cowboy studio trigger and receiver. I tested the trigger system with my girlfriends Nikon SB-600 and it works smartly. Unfortunately this can't be said for the quantaray. Is there a setting I'm unaware of to execute this? Any help would be appreciated.
Make sure the pin is connecting with the receiver correctly.
No there shouldn't be any setting to change. The flash basically believes it's on camera and receives the electronic pulse to fire.
If that doesn't solve your problem it's the flash you are using. Quantaray isn't all that reliable… You can find older, used flash units for any camera on ebay and use them off camera with a trigger setup. It's an inexpensive way to purchase several flash guns for OCF work. Just don't mount them on your camera. Some of the older ones have the ability to fry your hotshoe-which is why people don't want them. They just forget that they can be awesome units off camera!
