Nikon D700 NEW OR USED?

NEW I'm looking at £1625 from WarehouseExpress, USED I'm looking at between £1200 & £1500… So why the hell are people so adamant that buying new, since the release of the D800/D4, is such a bad idea! Everywhere I look people are straight away suggesting that NOBODY should buy a NEW D700 now, but to opt for a used body. I'm not realistically going to save myself £200 on a body for the sake of it, when many that crop up for that price on eBay seem to look like they've been used as a bloody football rather than to take photos.
Can anybody explain why it might be that people are so against buying new since the release of the aforementioned models?
& before anybody suggests it, I do not wish to spend an extra £800 on the 36MP D800 because everything costs more (batteries mainly) & although I'd love to own one, I just don't NEED all that camera just yet.

Buying is used is great as long as you find one that is in good condition. I just sold an old DSLR of mine and even though I had it for years it looked practically new because I took good care of it. It is not worth it though if the body is beat up. Try looking on Amazon as well because they sell used cameras.

I do get why people buy a new D700, because the D4 is hugely expensive, and the D800 is a totally different camera to the D700. D800 targets studio users, wheras D700 will attract high speed photographers who can't afford a D3 or D4.
Therefore if you are a high speed user then buy a new D700, you won't miss anything from a D800. If you're a studio photographer, then buy a cheap second hand D700 and wait for the funds to get a D800.
