I'm planing on buying the Nikon 1 j1.
I have a Nikon d300s with a 18-300 lends. My quiestion is. Can the j1 be connected to these lends. I hear there's a special connector for the j1?

Yes, a FT-1 adapter is available. I own a V1 with FT-1 adapter and have found that the good F-mount glass will perform better on the Nikon 1 than the kit lenses.
Realize though that autofocus is only possible with AF-S lenses, and there are a few other restrictions, such as spot metering only (which I almost always use anyway). And depending on the lens, the Nikon 1 is no longer a lightweight compact camera.
But the FT-1 does come with an integrated tripod mount as you should use that rather than the camera's mount with such lenses. And I connect my Black Rapid strap to the FT-1 mount rather than using the camera strap when using it.
And with the Nikon 1 CX crop factor, your 18-300mm lens will crop to an equivalent of 49~810mm.
I use my Nikon V1 as a secondary camera to my D90, especially when on vacation. When I need the extra reach, rather than whip out a cheap, poor quality bridge camera with 50x zoom, I simply attach a 70-300mm to the V1, and get a higher quality photo than possible with a bridge camera.
