Added (1). Ok sorry
I use a nikon D300s

What camera body do you have? If its the D3000, D3100 or D5000, D40, D50 or D60, none of those have a focus motor in the body, so I guess you'd be looking at AF-S lenses? In which case the Nikkor 60mm f2.8 or 105mm f2.8 are your only choices.
If you aren't too fussed about manual focusing (& its often used in macro work anyway), or you have a different Nikon body, then you can consider other lenses. I use a Sigma 50mm f2.8 macro - this is the sort of shot I get with it;
The longer the focal length, the greater the working distance - I find 50mm to be ok, but some prefer a 105mm to get a bit further away from the subject (to avoid spooking them).

Newest version of the Tamron 90mm f2.8 (Model A272NII), it comes with an auto-focus motor for your Nikon. I have it on my Sony dSLR, great lens.

That depends on two things.
1. Which camera do you have? The baby nikons, anything under the d90, will need a motorized lens to autofocus.
2. Why you want a macro lens. For insects for example the 60mm is too short.
To complicate matters further, all macro lenses are incredibly sharp if used properly.
PErsonally I prefer my 100mm tokina. Sharp, build extremely well, nice AF/MF clutch, the focal length works for bugs and makes it a good lens for candid portraits in a living room with ambient light.
