Looking for a good nikon dslr camera?

I'm looking for a camera because i want to get into photography, not for a job or anything just like a hobby. I was looking into the nikon d100, but i think that one was released in 2002, and it seems kinda old and out dated. I also looked into the d50 and d70, and i'm not sure which one to buy.
I'm looking for a used one because my budget is around 300, I saw some of the d50s and d70s for around 250 used.
I also saw they have those cool pix ones but, i've heard they have slow shutter speed or what ever you call it. I'm looking for more of a d100 type.
Oh, and i think the ones I was looking at only include the body, which i think means no lens?

D5100. Its good 4 ya! A begginer dslr! But its good!

The D100 can still take excellent images if you know how to use a fully adjustable camera.
I still have and use my D100
The current Nikon D3100 is an excellent camera if you happen to have $700 in your back pocket

D100, D50, and D70 are all truly capable of great photography, you just need to get a good lens with it.
If you want something a little more up to date, the Nikon D3000 came out a couple years ago. It's an entry level model. You may find a used D5000, or D80 for a decent price as well.
The only problem is, most of these cameras with a lens is between $300-400. The entry model cameras by Nikon (Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D5000, D3100, D5100) are great cameras close to that price range. They can only auto-focus with certain lenses though (AF-S). Usually they come with the 18-55mm zoom lens.
The other camera models, D100, D200, D70, D80 (etc etc) can auto-focus with just almost any Nikon lens.
Some cheap lenses to look at with these camera models would be:
18-55mm AF-S (VR or VRII recommended) … This will auto-focus on any Nikon DSLR
50mm 1.8d… Will not auto-focus on Nikon entry level DSLRs
As previously stated by the other guys, as long as you're getting into photography as a hobby, any of these cameras are plenty capable of rocking your world. Honestly, you might have to save up close to $400 to grab a good camera/lens combo.

Since I saw the word budget i would definitely opt for the nikon d70s. Almost exactly the same as the d70 but has a bit wider screen which makes all the difference when reviewing your pictures. You can also probably find a kit lens on craigslist around your area for $120 - $200.

The Nikon D40 is within your budget, and despite only 6mp is a very good camera. I have a new D3100 and a D40, together they make a great pair, the difference in image quality is very little because of the huge sensor size. The lenses from your d100 will only work in manual - thats the only problem.
