Is the Nikon D600 just as good as the D800 in low light/high ISO conditions? - 1
I'm mainly dealing with conditions involving very low light availability without the use of flash and would like to know whether the D600 is just as good as the D800.
Here. Read the noise/ISO…
The D600 performs better in low light at high ISO than the D800.
If you look at scores from DxOmark.com, it would seem that the opposite is true. DxOmark.com for whatever reason makes you dig around to get the real low light score. The score they put up front is called the "print" score.
They take all images, reduce them to 8 megapixels, then print it. Then the noise is judged or measured. In this test, higher pixel count sensors cheat the test as the noise is overwhelmed by the brute force of additional pixels.
The real performance of the sensor is the "screen" number, once you find the right links, you can see the real performance on screen at full size.
Then the D600 soundly beats the D800 as it should. It has fewer pixels, they are larger pixels, and will gather up more light. Go for the D600 with no worries. Anyone that tells you that the image sensor in the D800 is better than the D600 does not know how to interpret DxOmark data.
