Is Canon going to replace 1Ds Mark III this year?
Are they going to replace it? I know they have introduced 2 new FF cameras this year (1dx and 5dm3) but they all are 22MP or less.nikon introduced d800 with 36MP. Do you think canon is going to introduce a FF camera with high MP number? Maybe 30 or something like that?
Yes, it is the new Canon 1D X. The 1Ds model nomenclature seems to have been dropped for now. The New 1D X is a full frame dSLR, not like the old 1D cameras which were APS-H sensored.
The number of pixels on the 1D X is 18 mp. More pixel density is NOT necessarily make betting images. The new Nikon D4 has a 16 mp sensor.
The Nikon D800 is designed for studio and landscape photography, thus the higher pixel count, 36 mp. It does NOT have the low light performance that a Nikon D4 or Canon 1D X have.
Since both Nikon and Canon only introduce new full frame cameras every 4 to 5 years, you may have to wait if you think you need a higher pixel count sensor on your camera
There have been minor posts over at http://www.canonrumors.com/ about Canon introducing a high mp camera to combat the D800 this year, it has been suggested that one could be announced at Photokina in September but many other things have been said about releases at that event as well.
The reason Canon haven't and don't seem to be making a very high resolution DSLR is because there isn't that much of a demand for it in the industry. I don't know anyone who needs such high resolutions, any studio photographers I know who really need the resolution tend to shoot with Hasselblad instead.
I wouldn't say we'll be seeing a direct update for the 1Ds Mark III (well I hope not! I love mine, I don't want to feel all outdated!) after the release of the 1D X. Canon seem to have brought an end to their 1Ds series with the introduction of the 1D X.
