Waiting will make sure you get the latest and most up-to-date camera (at least for the next 6 months or so). Buying now will allow you to start shooting now. What to choose depends on what's more important to you.

Are the retailers going to start reducing the price on Mk11s to make room for the MK111 and will the Mk111 be sufficiently better to justify what I'm sure will be a higher asking price? I don't know! Very much imho, but unless the Mk111 has some killer features that swing it for you, I'd get a Mk11 and put the difference into a decent lens. And keerok's right, of course - when do you want your camera?

Try this - find a big retailer(s) that's offering the Mk11 at a reasonable price. Go on their website, register, and put one in your basket BUT DON'T FINISH THE SALE! See if you get a tempting offer after a few days.

The answer to your question really depends upon you. Do you have a camera that meets your needs? If you do, then wait. If you don't, then you have to ask yourself: Can I wait until some time in 2019 when the 7D Mark iii is announced; possibly in the 2nd half of 2019?

It boils down to whether you're able to get shots now, and if not, then how much is missing shots until the 7D Mark iii is released, maybe in 2019? Or, are you someone who's upgrading for the sake of having the latest and greatest?

How much better will the 7D Mark III be over the Mark II? Considering that Canon is introducing a whole new mirrorless system, it's highly unlikely that they will introduce a Mark iii that's significantly better than the Mark ii to make waiting worth the opportunity costs of not having a Mark ii that will likely meet your needs. Take a look at the new 70-200 f/2.8L that Canon introduced earlier in the month. The two "big" improvements was a better lens coating and a different paint job. Really? Then take a look at the 5D Mark IV which had minimal "improvements" over the Mark III. Because Canon is investing so heavily into a totally new mirrorless system which includes lenses, they simply don't have the capital to make major improvements in their current lineup of bodies and lenses.

So with this in mind, I personally would get the 7D mark ii now and be happy that I'm now able to get the sports & wildlife shots that I need as opposed to be massively disappointed in late 2019. Remember, the 7D series is specifically designed with the sports & wildlife shooter in mind. If that's not you, then you probably should be looking at a different body.

Why wait?

There may be a 7Div after that, and the 7Dv, both marginally better than the 7Dii (which I've had over a year and been very happy with). The sensor may improve a bit and there may be a few bells and whistles, but photographically there will be little difference under controlled conditions. Ultimately you will have a bigger effect on image quality than the camera ever will.
