IR photography - How to get started?
I have a Nikon D200. I want to see if it's even possible for me to do IR photography. I've read online, that you have to take apart the camera sensor, and remove some filters from it. I've also read that there are the screw-on filters--do these work? And I've read too, that some cameras can do IR photography better than others--how do I find this out? And I'm looking to do color IR, not just Black and White--is this possible for me?
Converting a camera is not a do it yourself thing. The sensor needs to have a filter removed so that the infrared light can hit the sensor itself.
Read about the conversion here:

Getting color images is a matter of doing some work in Photoshop. That too is described on the linked page.
The least expensive way is to buy a nice 35 mm Nikon and use your existing lenses. Add a 25A filter and use IR film.
Colour IR film is no longer made.
As mentioned above, if you want to use your D200, you will have to have it converted into a dedicated IR camera, but then if you want to shoot in RGB, you will have to have two cameras, one IR and the other RGB.

Those camera modifications typically involve not just removing but replacing the deep pass filter with an infrared one. Usually the deep pass filter does not filter IR or at least doesn't filter all of it, so one can work with a IR filter on the lens instead while leaving the deep pass filter in the camera.
That being said, the D200 is IR capable, but only barely.
