I have a D200 nikon automatic?

Lately, the display screen flashes and the camera turns off while using it.
Sometimes not a minute goes by as I'm shooting without it turning off. The batteries are charged up. The display flashes and goes nuts and the camera turns itself off. It must be sensing something is wrong and it turns off to protect the system but I have no idea what is causing it. What's happening and how do I correct it?

Something is wrong with your camera and you will need to contact Nikon.

That said, how often do you use the LCD, usually photographers don't need to look at each shot after they take since usually after a using a camera like the D200 for less than a year, the user is sure what they are doing and just keep shooting, much like you did when you learned using a 35 mm SLR. When you had to shoot a whole roll and wait a few days to get the results back.

If you are not using your camera thusly, you may want do that.

In the mean time have Nikon help you get your fine camera working again.

Are you assuming that your battery is capable of holding a charge? I would take your camera (with a fully charged battery) to any reputable camera store that sells Nikon and show an employee the problem. Then ask them to borrow the battery out of one of their displays so that you can verify if it's a battery problem or a camera problem. Try your battery in one of their cameras as well, double checking can't hurt!

Thank them profusely for the help and seriously consider purchasing your next battery from them. They obviously offer good customer service.

You can check your menu settings and see if you have it set to shut off after a minute automatically but I thinks that's unlikely. Sounds like it's time to get it into the shop for a pro to look at.
