Does the Nikon d3200 have better image quality than the d7000?

I probably won't get the 3200 because of the entry level body, but does it have better quality than the d7000? It's part of the new lineup with the d800 and the d4 so all the processors and stuff should be pretty good. The ISO should be reasonable as well.

Nope the D3200 has more pixels, but image quality is less than the D7000 and D5100. More surprisingly the D3200 produces lower image quality that other 24mp cameras based on the same family of Sony manufactured sensors.

If you visit the website http://www.dxomark.com/...xomark.com, you can compare those two sensors, head to head.

They are very close in performance. With the D7000, you get the ability to use legacy Nikkor AF lenses and it has environmental seals to protect from moisture and dust, like its big brothers.

No. Image quality depends more on your skill. The camera is only a tool.

If you go to this page

and select the Nikon D7000 as one of the cameras for comparison, I think you will find that although the D3200 makes the image bigger, it fails to capture any finer detail. Interestingly, if you select the Sony Alpha NEX-7 it does reveal a little more detail.
