Can I use a Nikon DSLR lens with a Nikon film camera?
I'm taking a photography class in college and plan on buying a Nikon FM10 film camera. I have a hand-me-down Nikon D100 from my dad with a couple of lenses and would like to know if they can be used with the FM10. The main lens I want to use with the FM10 is the Nikon AF-Nikkor 50mm 1:1.4D. So is it possible?
Yes, ANY Nikkor AF or AF-S lens will work on your D100 and with a few exceptions, the FM10
Here is a full list of all the lenses and cameras that will work with other Nikon bodies
Only Nikon Nikkor lenses with the "FX" prefix should be used on your Nikon FM10 35mm film camera. Although the Nikkor lenses with the "DX" prefix can be used on your film camera you'll experience vignetting because the image circle of the "FX" lenses is too small to cover the 35mm film frame.
"FX" prefix lenses, yes.
"DX" prefix lenses, not recommended.
Your FM-10 can use that 1.4D. It can use a lot of the AF lenses except the ones without an aperture ring (G in Nikon's lens nomenclature).
Both cameras can use the old Ai and Ai-s manual focus lenses.
Neither can use the Nikon IX system lenses.
