Nikon SLR Cameras

Camera advice: urgent

So, I have a Canon SX 20 IS, that's about 8 months old, and yesterday something happened and I've found out that the lens needs to be replaced. This is gonna cost about $80-$158. Minus the cost, I'm leaving to France tomorrow and I need a camera, and since my Canon barely zooms, there's no point of bringing it with.

I was looking at cameras that are near in the same price range. There's a Canon SX 30 and a Nikon D300.
Which camera is better to get? They're more or less in te same price range.

And as for my SX 20, is it better to pay for the lens replacement or to just get a new one?

I suggest you to buy new one because the Performance of replaced lens is not so good in many of cases

In my opinion canon sx-30 is the best because it records 720p videos nikon d300 can't record hd movies

these are some main feature comparison in both.

I hope this comparison helps you to make quick decision

If you have a niceish lens on the D300 then offcourse the D300…

The Nikon D300 is nowhere near the price of a compact camera - it's a semi-pro model. I think you mean the D3000!

The Canon SX30 is a compact point & shoot, the Nikon D3000 is an entry level DSLR (for which you will have a limited lens range, but the optical quality will be far better than any compact).

Canon SX30 IS Shoots HD (720p) video as well as still pictures. It Helps eliminate blur caused by small camera movements. Nikon D300 has 4x higher resolution screen. It has 2x longer exposures.
