With the D7000 kit lens how close can you get to a object to photograph it?

Also what is the best macro lens for the d7000? Is the TAMRON 90MM F2.8 DI NIKON MACRO II good? I wanna take pictures of like the eye of a gecko inside a flower stuff like that very close up and lots a detail. And with the D7000 kit lens what kind of things can I do? How close can you get to a object to photograph it? Can I take really close up pictures or semi close up pictures? How far does it zoom? Thank you!

Which kit lens? There are several different kits.
Usually the kit lenses are designed to cover most situations. They aren't particularly good at any one thing, but cover the basics.
The Tamron you are looking at isn't bad at all. Definitely sharper than any kit lens will be.

ETA: The closest focusing distance is about 1.5 feet. Not super close and not the greatest for macro. Macro is a 1:1 ratio. The image on the sensor is the same size as the subject. The 18-105 produces a maximum of 1:5. You would get a good feel for it with that lens and a better idea of what you want for macro work. I'd go with purchasing the kit first, use it, play with it, learn with it and as you feel for what you need, then make the decision to purchase your next lens.

The kit lens that comes with the D7000 is okay. It's the same one that came with my D90, but I don't really use it. If you want to take pictures like the one I linked to, you really need something like the Tamron. The kit lens just can't get that close to the subject.
