Yes, it will mount on your 5000… BUT… It will not meter with your camera.

Just buy a 50 1.8 AF-S.

Yes it will work on your camera, but you will have to do manual everything - manual exposure, manual focus. But you will get an idea of what us old timers did everyday before all of this automatic stuff.

And if you become successful at it, you will be a better photographer because of it. So for the price, I say go ahead and try one of those older lenses.

At any rate, your leaning curve should be quicker than those of us that had to do it with expensive film (improperly exposed photos cost as much as the good ones if you are using film).
