Will National PE-280C Flash Work with my Nikon D3000?
If Not. I'm looking for a cheap and a good flash for my cam. Any suggestions?
Do you really NEED an external flash?
Are you shooting a lot of events?
If you don't NEED a flash, use the built-in flash on the D3000 with a flash diffuser like the Gary Fong "Puffer" when shooting people.
If you really do need an external flash, then spending the extra for a dedicated Nikon SB600 will be worth the investment. It has special features that you D3000 can use that NO generic flash has. $220 is NOT a lot for an SB600.

Some dSLR cameras have a trigger voltage maximum voltage that will limit which generic flash units they can actually use
Call Nikon and ask what those limits are. 800-NIKON-UX
Things you need to know when buying generic flash units, especially for those of you who own Canon and Sony dSLR's which have a limit of 6v trigger voltage.

As you read through these links, you will see that buying anything other than the matching flash for your specific dSLR can be risky
My research shows the PE-280C has a flash trigger voltage of 150v and it is an old flash with NO TTL features, so using it would be completely manual, that is you will have to determine which aperture to use once you know the distance the subject is from your subject.
