Will a Vivitar DF-283 work with a Cactus V4 wireless flash trigger?
I have a Nikon d3100
Vivitar 283's should be treated with caution - older models had high flash trigger voltages (in the region of 600V).
However newer (post 1987) versions, made in China are digitally safe (5-10V) and I'm wondering of the 'DF' notation stands for 'digital flash'.
Someone in the Flickr Strobist group reports that he's used V4's with an old Metz 45 flash (trigger voltage 200V) and that apparently V4's are happy up to around 300V.
The DF models are not anything at all like the original 283's. They are made as TTL flashes, and sold under about 5 brand names besides Vivitar (like Bowers and Rokinon).
The triggers will work.
I use a variation of the Cactus triggers with Metz 45's, an old Albinar, a Metz 32, and an ancient Vivitar. All work just fine.
