Will a Nikon Nikkor 300mm F/2.8 N AI-S AIS Lens auto focus on a nikon d90?
Will a Nikon Nikkor 300mm F/2.8 N AI-S AIS Lens auto focus on a nikon d90?
Should be because D90 has its own focus motor built in
No - because it is not an AF lens. Unless it has 'AF' somewhere in the lens spec it will be a manual focus lens.
You will have to manually focus it and adjust the aperture on the lens barrel. Not sure how it is with the D90, but with my D300 I can program in non-CPU lenses (their focal length & max aperture) and although the aperture is changed on the lens barrel, it will display the correct aperture reading on the LCD screen and in the EXIF data.
I have older Nikon lenses like the 135mm f2.8.
It won't autofocus on any camera since it is a manual-focus lens.

No. It doesn't matter if the D90 has it's own AF motor. If the lens is manual focus, it will never autofocus.
AI-S lenses are the very old F mount lenses
they will mount and you can use them, but you will not have autofocus.
