Will a lens Nikon 18-55mm DX will be fully compatible with my D90?
I was about to buy a lens when I read the following note from the vendor:
Note! DX lenses are NOT recommended for use with "full-frame" digital or 35mm film SLR cameras.
The lens I was buying is Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR AF-S DX.
Thanks guys.
Added (1). I bought a kit with D90 and Tamron 28-80mm and 75-300mm lenses. But I need to record video in a fairly close distance (for guitar lessons) and the 28-80 doesn't cover much at that distance.
Any recommendation will be appreciated.
The D90 is a DX camera, not a full frame one. So it will work perfectly.
Just wondering… Why do you want to buy it? There are worse lenses around, but it's pretty much the most "basic" lens currently available. What other lenses do you already have?
Yes its will work - the D90 you have is NOT a full frame camera.
In fact all Nikon DX glass will work on its full frame cameras in any case - but it will use a smaller portion of the sensor so you'd lose some image resolution.
The 18-55mm lens is the basic 'kit lens' that comes with the camera when sold new (usually). It's not the best lens in the box. Why would you want to buy it separately - did you not get one with your D90?
Yes it's fine. The D90 uses an APS-C type sensor which the DX lens is suited for.
Deep Blue… DX glass will not work on full frame cameras. There will be heavy vignetting. I think you mean the other way around i.e. A lenses designed for full frame will work on APS-C (Nikon DX) bodies!
As for lens choice it sounds like you're going to need something wide? You could replace the 28-80 (which IMO is not a good lens) with something like the Tamron 17-50mm. It is wider and has a constant f/2.8 aperture.
Any Nikon lens in the current lineup will be fully compatible with your D90. The 18-55 will also kick the 28-80 on sharpness.
I would consider its work on all nikon dslr
