Why is my Nikon D60 is making a grinding sound?

When trying to take a picture my D60 makes a grinding noise.

Two mechanical things are happening when you take a picture. The mirror flips up out of the way and the shutter opens and closes. Either of these could cause a grinding noise. Your choice is to put up with it until it breaks or send it to Nikon to be fixed.
