White line Nikon D40?

My Nikon D40 has a perfectly linear line going down every picture on the left. I've had the camera for about half a year and this hasn't happened before. Now, I notice the intensity of this line diminishes when I lower the iso, but it does not disappear completely. Any trouble shooting help?

Have your camera checked at an authorized Nikon service center.

Some people call it sensor burn. Any chance you have been taking pictures of high intensity lasers? Probably one of the readout circuits got burned.

Basically, you will need to get it serviced professionally, but you may be able to get it covered under warranty.
