Which of these lens' are best for my Nikon D50 camera please?
I want to do nature, pet, and event photography and am considering buying one of the following lenses for my Nikon D50 camera to add to my lens collection. Which one would you recommend please?
Nikon Nikkor AF 80-200mm f4.5-5.6
Nikon Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 G AF
Nikon AF 70-300mm 300 mm
Nikon 80-200mm f4.5-5.6 AFD
Nikon Nikkor AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G.
Many times, people want the longest lenses they can get - especially birders. They even go for longer ones, such as the Sigma 150~500mm.
One thing that you may not realize about your camera, is that even though it is considered an entry-level camera, it is the only one that has an internal focusing motor - so unlike the other entry level Nikon DSLRs, it can autofocus AF lenses as well as AF-S lenses.
It appears all of the lenses on your list are AF, but I'm not familiar with the Nikon 80-200mm f4.5-5.6 AF. The only 80-200mm lens Nikon currently makes is the top-notch AF 800-200mm f/2.8.
You listed 2 lenses, multiple times.
The 80-200 is an old lens, but it should work. Not a spectacular lens, but not a bad one. The 75-300 is junk. At least the G model is junk, there are better. If you can find the ED version, it is an outstanding lens. And then there's a the VR version, but it is more than twice the price of the G model.
If price is your primary concern, the least expensive but still decent lens in this range is the Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO model. It has to be the APO model, or you are just wasting your money.
