Which lens would be good for a Nikon D3000 body?

Which lens would be good to use with a Nikon D3000 body. I'm a newbie and don't really have a lot of money.

I would suggest the kit lens. 18-55 VR retails for about 180usd and can be had a lot cheaper second hand. Good range and good optics at a reasonable price. Make sure you get the VR version, not the other one which is older.

The AF-S 50mm f/1.8 is one of the best inexpensive lenses Nikon makes.
