Which lens is better for my Nikon D3000?

So I need a lens for christmas and I want it auto focus, so I want to know which lens is better? I can see that the 18-105 is 300 dollars less than the 16-85. I don't understand why is that because the 18-105 zooms better and they have the same specs. Can someone help me? Also, I want to take landscape pictures, but this is good. If anything, can you refer some good sharp auto focus wide angle/landscape lens for my Nikon D3000. BTW can these lens autofocus on my camera?
AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR
AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR

One of the reasons it's less could be the quality of the glass. The 18-105 certainly has more reach but is the glass the same quality? Difficult to tell unless you actually talk with Nikon

Any lens with a built-in AFS motor will autofocus with your D3000, so yes, both lenses will autofocus.
Both lenses actually very sharp lenses. The 16-85mm is a bit better when it comes to distortion and chromatic abberation (purple fringing) and it also has a 16mm wide end compared to the other lenses 18. However, I also feel that the $300 is too high and the 18-105mm makes more sense overall. With the price of the 16-85mm that high, you might as well go for a 18-200mm which will give much better versatility than either lens.
So in the end, I'd probably get the 18-105mm lens. With that extra $300 I saved, I'll only need to save another $200 at most to afford a real wide angle zoom lens.
