So i have narrowed down my search to just two cameras that fit what i'm looking for

Canon rebel xs and a nikon D3000

can you list the pros and cons of each

i just want the better of the two cameras

who takes the best, clear, crisp pictures

Hondo

They ate essentially equal. Clear, crisp pictures is up to you. Either camera can do that. If your pictures are not crisp and clear, it is your fault, not the camera's.

Adding to Hondo's comments you need to handle the cameras until you feel more comfortable with one over the other. My only comments being a life long Canon user. Is that I feel Canon's viewing screen is too busy. I never even gave Nikon a consideration as their accessories and lenses use to be out of sight price wise.

I'm another Canon owner and I happen to have an XS, an excellent camera. I've had this one for nearly 2-years and I keep getting excellent results with it.

I have a friend who's a Nikon user and he really likes his cameras so it's a wash. You decide.

They are both almost equally good, Nikon however, has a slight edge in low light performance, has a slightly larger sensor (hence slightly better image quality).
But you can't go wrong with either, decide for yourself.

Like others have said, they are both just about equal. There might be slight differences, but in reality they won't make much of a difference. I'd try to get your hands on both and see what feels better to you.
