Which is better quality: HDV or AVCHD?

I know that in "most" cases, HDV is higher quality than AVCHD even though it uses a simpler codec because of the super-high bitrate. None of the sites talk about AVCHD camcorders that get better quality than HDV, though.
But which gets better quality overall (not just by resolution), HDV (like on a Canon HV30) or AVCHD recorded on a DSLR like a Nikon D90?

AVCHD is a higher rate and format overall Nikon and others use it Sony and Panasonic are the makers and.otbers have followed… Overall AVCHD works better in DSLRs
All I know is more and more are using it for film and with their cameras as well interesting discussion below…
