Which entry level DSLR is better?
I've done some research and it seems the most popular are the canon rebel XS, sony alpha A200, or the nikon D3000. What's best for a beginner who wants to take mainly portraits and glamour? My budget's 600.
The one that feels most comfortable to you and has all the features you think you need at this point.
The D3000 is a little outdated but still a good camera. Just remember that you will have to have AF-S lenses if you want to be able to use autofocus.
D3000 is last years model but is working good for me. Maybe get it as a closeout for under $500.
And remember…
A camera is but a paint brush, it is more important who is holding the brush than which brush it is. All decent cameras can take wonderful pictures in the right hands. Spend your time studying great lighting and composition. And have fun with whichever brush you buy.
Designed to ease the transition from compact to DSLR, the D3100 features a Scene Auto Detector, to optimise the camera settings based on the situation, and a guide Mode providing a step-by-step process for new users, showing how changing settings will affect the image.
Think carefully, with a traditional dslr you will probably only be able to have the kit lens, if your starting out why not buy a bridge camera, it's almost the same as a dslr except you can't change the lens but it has a lens that will zoom from 24mm to a massive 500mm (depending on model) this will give you many more possibilities and you will be able to use it in manual mode if you like. It will be a lot cheaper than a dslr, then when you want to upgrade, if ever, you will know yourself what to buy and what lenses you need.
