What's is one or many recommended lenses for close up photos with the Nikon D3100?
I'm looking for a few lenses:
1) Close up for bug, animals, plants
2) A wide Range for landscape
3) taking photos in general dim light settings
1) Consider the AF-S Micro-Nikkor 60mm f2.8G ED or the AF-S DX Micro-Nikkor 85mm f3.5G ED VR for true macro photography. Both these lenses will give you a 1:1 (life-sized) reproduction ratio.
2) Consider the AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f3.5-4.5G ED or the AF-S DX Nikkor 16-85mm f3.5-4.5G ED VR for your landscape photography. Obviously, the widest view will be with the 10-24mm at 10mm. However, there will be distortion of vertical lines at the edges of the frame - they will look like this ( ) instead of like this I I. So if such distortion bothers you either make sure there are no vertical lines at the edge of the frame or go with the 16-85mm. Actually, you can make some very good landscape pictures with the 18mm end of your 18-55mm zoom and 16mm isn't all that much wider. NOTE: I consider a tripod as a mandatory accessory for good landscape photography. If you don't own a tripod add one to your shopping list.
3) For low-light photography consider the AF-S Nikkor 50mm f1.4G. Yes its more expensive than the 50mm f1.8G but the overall build quality is superior.
If I were spending my money it would be for the Micro-Nikkor 85mm f3.5G and the Nikkor 50mm f1.4G and my landscapes would be done with the 18mm end of the 18-55mm zoom - with the camera on my tripod.
