What zoom lens do you prefer?
What would you suggest? Nikon 18-55 f2.8 or the 24-70 f2.8? I still don't have plans on upgrading to a full frame camera and now i'm using a nikon d7000.
18-55 f2.8? I haven't heard of f2.8 for this lens but if you find one (the kit lens that comes with the body is normalyy f3.5), then get this one instead. DX lenses are 1.5X of full frame lenses. Meaning at 50mm (DX lens), the equivalent to full frame is already 75mm.
It depends on what you shoot. I have the 17-55 f/2.8 and love it. I bought this lens as my original lens with my first DSLR, bypassing the kit lens, which was not as good as this lens. On the D7000 (or any other Nikon DX camera), it is the "general purpose" zoom lens, going fromslightly wide to slightly tele. The 24-70 lens is the full format equivalent. If you "never" shoot wider than 24mm, then why not?
If you tend to shoot more scenic landscape views or work in close quarters, you will want to have the 17mm end. If you tend to shoot more people or nature, then you will want the 70mm end.
Here are almost 500 samples from the 17-55 lens. Just take a peak at the thumbnails to get an idea of the applications of the 17-55 lens.
Not that there's much difference, but here are some from the 18-70 lens. You may see a few more head shots and stuff like that that you would use the 70mm end of the 24-70 lens for.
