What type of DSLR lens should I upgrade to?

I have the Nikon D3100. I got it back in December and I'm looking to upgrade from my kit lens. I would really like to upgrade to a 18-200mm lens, but it's a little more expensive than I can do right now. I was thinking of getting the 55-200mm lens instead. I just would like some other opinions/thoughts/experiences.

I have a d3100 too and also the kit lens and the 55-200mm lens.

i don't really use the 55-200mm that much.

it really depends on what type of photography you do. Like for example, i do some concert and event photography so i often have to deal with low lighting or constant changes in lighting and fast moving objects. I have been borrowing a 35mm f/1.8 from my friend and it worked wonders both for concert photography and portraits. And i recently bought the new 50mm f/1.8 because i decided i liked it better than the 35. I absolutely love it and i haven't touched my kit lens in ages. The only problem is that it is a prime lens, so i'm not able to zoom like i was with the kit lens and the 55-200mm.

so yea.really depends on what you're looking to do because the kind of things you usually take pictures of definitely affects what lens you should go for. Like obviously, if you're really into landscape photography, a 35mm f/1.8 prime would not be the lens for you.

so i hoped that helped a little… Lol
