What to DSLR to get this Christmas?
I'll be buying my first DSLR this Christmas, and I haven't decided yet on what I should buy. I have my thoughts on the Nikon D90 and Canon 60D at the moment.
The Nikon is 250 dollars cheaper than the Canon, from where I live.
But the specifications of the 60D is much more advanced than the Nikon D90 (which is already two years old)
I've read that even though the D90 has 11 autofocus points, it only has one cross-type point, compared to the 60D which has 9 cross-types.
So, does that mean that the 60D has a faster and more accurate focus than the D90?
What can you suggest?
The 60D will only get me the 18-135mm Kit, while the Nikon can get me an extra lens ( a 50mm f1.4 AF-D) together with the 18-105mm Kit for it's price.

I made a typo in the title.
Pardon the little mistake:-)

Well, once I get either brands, I wouldn't be switching systems anymore. Both of them are great, but what's pulling me away from them is budget. The D90 sells almost as similarly with the 60D
The dilemma that's confusing me right now is that, with the Nikon, I could get another lens with the 60D's budget, whereas the 60D gets me a better camera minus the extra portrait lens.
Get the Canon. You can get the 50mm f1.4 later.
I think you should think first on what system you should build up, then decide which unit to buy.
That procedure is very important because it is not easy to switch brands later when you already invested too much for the accessories.

Personally I would go for the Canon model. It's probably faster and has better technology than the older Nikon model.
You might want to compare the Canon EOS 550D with the Canon 60D - because there isn't a great deal of difference between the two. The 550D is still fairly new (about 6 months)
Here's a good site for comparing them (copy and paste into URL bar if the link doesn't work!):

I don't know - its just a thought - and with the difference between the 550D and the 60D you could probably afford another lens…
