Canon - No
Sigma and Tamron, yes, as long as the lens has a Nikon mount.

As long as you buy a Sigma or Tamron lens with a Nikon mount they'll work just fine.

There's an adapter to allow use of the older Canon FD manual focus lenses on your Nikon but none to allow use of Canon EF auto focus lenses on it.

Anything suited for nikon AF will work just fine

The Nikon lens mount is unique to Nikon brand cameras, so lenses that mount on other cameras will not mount on Nikon cameras. While most older Nikon SLR lenses will mount safely on all current Nikon cameras, and your wise choice of the D90 means your camera will work perfectly with many excellent AF-D lenses that will not autofocus with Nikon's entry-level DSLRs, there are some compatibility limits within the Nikon lens range as well, outlined in this article on Ken Rockwell's web site:

http://www.kenrockwell.com/...y-lens.htm

3rd-party lenses like Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Vivitar and Zeiss are made to fit a variety of cameras, but once they're manufactured with a particular mount, they only fits the camera brand they're made for. If you're buying a Sigma or Zeiss lens, for example, you must get one that has the Nikon mount on it if you want it to work on your Nikon camera.

One exception to this rule is older T-mount lenses, which were designed to work on a variety of brands of cameras by changing the mount adapter. These are manual-focus lenses with manual or pre-set diaphragms that are much less convenient to use than today's lenses, and are quite mixed in optical quality. Unless you're looking for a cheap, long telephoto for birds that are going to sit still and pose for you, I wouldn't recommend you consider these lenses today.
