What Nikon lense set would you say is best for weddings?
I currently own a nikon d90. I have a 35mm f 1.8 and an 85mm f 1.4. Looking to add a mid, and a telephoto zoom. I know the 24-70 and 70-200 are the standards, but at this point I can't afford both so looking for the best alternative. With my budget I can get a Nikon 28-70mm and an 80-200mm used both f 2.8 or the sigma 24-70 and 70-200 sigma brand new? If not these lenses what would you suggest?
A mid range lens would be the best. The 28-70mm f/2.8 is what I would pick since at the 70mm setting you will get nice portraits and you can still go back for a somewhat wide shot at 28mm without making peoples noses look too big. A 70-200 or 80-200 is going to be pretty much useless for most wedding shots and you get a better result by simply moving in closer.
Use the 35mm for most of the ceremony. Use the 85mm for portraits and candids. What you need is a wide angle for those large group shots. If you have the 18-55mm kit lens, that would be perfect. You can work the whole wedding with it alone.
Though not Nikon glass, consider the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8.

Since I've gotten my Tamron (earlier non BIM af motor version), it's been my lens of choice. The fast aperture, snappy focus, and crisp images have made it my main lens.
- Would you say a Nikon D70s 6.1MP is still an excellent entry level SLR?
- How important would you say lighting is in photography?
- Would you say this is a sharp or soft lens (link to chart)?
- What would be a good lens for taking portraits and weddings?
- Best 'All purpose' lens for weddings? (Nikon d7000)?
