What lens is good and versatile?

Nikon D7000.
- Amateur - But I'd rather get a good lens I can use for a long time then replace it after 6 months because I find out that it isn't good.
- Not too dear.
- Versatile, I can take many things with as I do not specialize in anything that I take. Though I like photos of friends/wildlife/scenary, but still must be versatile.
I'm thinking about either 18-105mm, 18-55mm or 18-200mm.
But I hear so many bad reviews about the 18-200mm Nikon lens, the downfall being you have lock it.

It's rather personal. The 18-105 is a good lens when you consider range and price. PErsonally I'm quite fond of my nikon 28-105 with it's 1:2 macro option.

Of the three the 18-105mm would probably be the best choice. It is a more versatile range than the 18-55mm and a little better quality. The 18-105mm's front element does not rotate like the 18-55's does. Non-rotating is better when using a polarizing filter. The 18-200mm is more versatile, but the image quality compromises are likely to become noticeable at 16 MP.
