DSLR with most versatile lens?
Hello… I'm struggling to settle on a camera… In short I would like DSLR image quality and creative control but am put off by the idea of lens changing. The body I'm looking at is nikon d3100 but I'm open to other suggestions. Now the question is: what lens would give me the best flexibility and power in macro and telephoto? Forgive my ignorance, but is there a true "all in one" lens that can go from macro to powerful zoom without compromising on image quality AND that has some sort of good image stabilization so I don't have to be a slave to the tripod? Would a dslr with 18-200mm lens accomplish this? How does that compare to, say, a 24x optical zoom on a good ultra zoom camera?
I would say either the 18-200 or the 28-200.
I have two Canon dslr cameras but only one 28-200 by Canon. It's the best lens I've ever owned.
I hear you about lens changing. Can allow dust onto your sensor and other nasty things you don't want or need inside your camera.
"but is there a true "all in one" lens that can go from macro to powerful zoom without compromising on image quality"
Absolutely not. Why? Because DSLR camera lenses are specifically designed with changing to other lenses for different needs in mind. Any lens with a range even close to 18-200 will have worse (sometimes significantly worse) image quality than prime lenses, or zooms of much shorter focal length range.
You are going to need to make a very important decision before you decide on a new camera: What is convenience worth vs.image quality? If you want convenience, look into a nice point and shoot or a bridge camera. If image quality is worth more than convenience, then purchase a DSLR with the knowledge that you will NEED to change lenses to get the best image quality.
The 18-200 mm lens is a fine single lens solution.

Short answer: no
tamron 18-270 is the biggest all-in-one and is only a "x15" and it not has a macro mode… WITH compromising on image quality [ same thing for all 18-200 and similar ]
DSLR cameras do not have versatile lens they are versatile cameras on which you can use one of many appropriate lenses. You are describing a lens system, many lenses.
